Shenzen Bao\'an International Airport Design

Architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas will be designing the new Terminal 3 at Shenzen Bao’an International Airport.

Their winning design features a glass roof linking it to the other terminals, letting natural light flood into the concourse. The facade is made from a double skin consisting of a fine net on the interior and patterned glass linked through a geometric structure. With the addition of the new terminal, Shenzen Airport will become China’s fourth largest. [via Kanye] Read the rest of this entry »

Today, It’s Not My Day

Today, It\'s Not My Day

This was a great expressive shirt photo I saw on Flickr. I thought the photography really helped to express the mood through the perfectly lighted black & white photo. The look on the models face really says “today sucks.”

New York ‘Walk/Don’t Walk’ Chair

New York ‘Walk/Don’t Walk’ Chair

Who knew a New York City “Walk/Don’t Walk” sign could function as a chair in your living room? Like some other chairs we’ve seen lately, this one doesn’t look too comfortable, but it’s unquestionably unique. Its stern lit-up admonitions are even controllable by an included remote.

The chair started its life on the streets of New York, and you can have it delivered to you (about three months from now) in its beat-up city-worn state, or they’ll paint it up for you so it looks good as new. Maybe its glazed resin seat isn’t as uncomfortable as it looks, but those light bulbs inside must make it one hot seat. Too bad it costs $3700, especially if it’s stolen. [via DVICE]

A Vader Project

A Vader Project

A Vader Project – the vader version statue of liberty. There’s probably no better example of a Star Wars/Los Angeles mashup than the Vader Project art exhibit debuting at Celebration IV.

Some of the most influential underground artists were sent Darth Vader helmets and invited to use them as a canvas however they saw fit. The result is an oddly inspiring gallery that includes self-referential tributes to the trilogy, abstract interpretations, and a number of anti-war statements. By their very nature, all have a sense of humor.

Participating artists include Gary Baseman, Buff Monster, Mister Cartoon, Marc Ecko, Paul Frank, and Shag.

After this weekend, the exhibit will tour around the world, and eventually be put up for auction (details pending).
